Nursery

Hello, I have some questions about nursery and the 15h free childcare. My baby is 12 months old, I am not working right now so I can’t claim the 15h free yet. I am thinking on start working around February-March but I need to be working to claim 15h free, how do you do it? I mean I can’t pay it if I’m not working but I can’t start working if he is not at nursery 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also I’ve read I need to apply before January if he’s going to start in January, if not I need to wait until April… I’m very confused I feel so lost. Any advise? 😔

You should look on the gov.uk website because if you’re on benefits I think you are able to claim free hours earlier than those who are working. You will be able to claim 30hours from 9months next September

As above saying you need to read the Gov website and do the benefits calculator this - will tell you what you need to apply for. First job should be to find a nursery and see when they can take your baby. Where I live nursery spaces are like golddust (I just took the last place for May 2026!!! At my chosen one!) once you have that you can the complete the government forms and set up the account to get the free childcare hours and tax free benefits too.

Thank you girls. I’ve found a nursery where I live and they have places available from January. I will take a look at the Gov website. Thank you so much xxx

There is 15 hours for non working parents but it may be too late to claim for January, go on your local council website and have a look at their government funded 15 hours x

The nursery can also assist with understand the hours and assist when I went for a tour the lady said she can assist with any questions so they will know quite a bit about it
