I personally thought the cannula was worse
I feel the anxiety of getting it was worse than anything else. I didn't even feel the spinal itself.
The shock of the cold iodine (I think it was) helped distract me from the pain 😂 I did feel a sharp scratch from the pain numbing injection which they do first, then all I felt was pressure and it was done
I had a spinal and felt some pressure while they were doing it but it wasn't painful... I should also mention that I was high as a kite after being on the gas and air for 12 hours
I had the worst anxiety about it but its not bad at all
It was such a relief for me to get, it felt like nothing
@Georgia same
The iv in my hand and the catheter hurt worse than the epidural, it’s uncomfy but not painful!!! I wasn’t even really feeling my contractions yet when they gave it to me
Not any worse then childbirth. I was the same and once you’re in that situation you’ll just do it. It doesn’t hurt, it’s like a quick electric shock then it’s over
It’s more a pressure feeling but they’re so good and quick at doing it that it’s over before you know it
The only thing was a shock was this cold stuff they put on my back. As wasn't expecting it to be so cold. Other then that I felt nothing. And when they had finished I was like is that it. As I was surprised it didn't hurt
No they’ll numb are area. One thing I will say is - get the anaesthetist to put your cannula in! A nurse tried and failed to do mine and it was so painful, the anaesthetist did it and I didn’t feel a thing! X
@Angharad I think it depends with the cannula. The nurse got the anaesthetist to do mine after 3 failed attempts but the anaesthetist struggled too! She said it was particularly tricky as I have bubbly veins apparently 😅
Nope! The cannula was the worst part for me 😂

The nurse ruptured my vein 😩 I was black and blue, but the anaesthetist numbed the area on my other hand and got it in perfectly. Once the anaesthesia wore off it was uncomfortable x
I didn’t feel the epidural tbh and loved every min of it
My spinal was like a bee sting (I'm petrified of needles and honestly wasn't that bad and they did 7 attempts) The canula in my hand however was awful! Even with numbing gel as thats how i deal with needles. I think they did mine wrong because I couldn't move my hand without it hurting like someone was bashing my hand with a hammer and contractions on the drip where way, way, way less painful then them touching my hand to give IV antibiotics.
Just had my second section this morning. Didn’t hurt, just a short sting and stay still for a minute. Really the easiest bit of the whole thing xx
Mine didn’t hurt at all, an anaesthetic was used to numb the area before… again didn’t hurt, just made me twitch slightly x
I was most scared for this na actually shaking with nerves but it was fine. They inject you before to numb the area and then all you feel is a bit of pressure. The cannula for me was most painful but very bearable 😅
They tell you how to bend over etc to get it right the first go. Good luck ❤️
No it's just a bit stingy, the dr who talked me through it likened it to a bee sting.
They give you local anaesthetic first so don’t feel the spinal… the most painful part of the cannula in your hand! 😅
@Han does the local hurt? Everyone is saying the cannula is bad 😂
Not at all for the local, potentially a little sting but that’s all. I can tolerate a bit of pain I think and the cannula really did hurt but it’s so quick and then that’s it! x
The poke in the back is so quick yes you will feel it but it’s over so quick you barely notice and there’s no pain. I loved it would 100 percent recommend
It doesn’t hurt but it’s definitely weird. I had a spinal with my emergency c-section and it was unnerving. But not necessarily painful
I had an epidural, didn't hurt, even the injection to numb it didn't hurt, just the thought of it grossed me out 🫣 they put my catheter in after and I couldnt feel that. When they took the catheter our after it felt slightly weird for a second but not painful at all! 💜 you got this! 💪🏽
Not at all. You won’t feel it.
