Elective c section

I requested an elective c section but the consultant wants me to do more research and justify further why I want it before they will schedule it. If anyone has had c section and vbac, which did you prefer and why? C section would give me comfort around having more control around the process. Still split so would appreciate your input, recovery time and healing/appearance of the scar and impact on body image are the main cons for c section at the moment

Interested in what people have to say about this because I'm in a similar position.

Have you had a C-section before? If so I don’t know why the would question an elective. I asked because you said C-section or vaginal birth after C-section.

I don’t know where you’re based but if you are in the UK, you don’t have to justify why you want a section. It’s your right to choose how you birth your baby. If that particular consultant won’t agree and do it, they have to refer you to someone who will. X

I had a C-section and a lot of push backs from doctors and nurses because of the complications. C-section was over in 15 minutes and I wasn’t in pain I used a post partum surgery belt so I never felt much pain but again it’s gonna take a while to heal. The scar is tiny has I use Kelocote which has made it almost disappear. The apron belly really did give me body image issues but honestly you’re gonna have them either way your stomach is super deflated after birth that it’s gonna be an apron belly but if you wear the belt and eat healthy it won’t be anything crazy

If you are UK based you don't have to give reason. I went elective (last week!) And also had a bit of pushback on the sign off, but I simply said I have anxiety, I know the risks and ill go ahead. Advocate for what you want 🫶 I'll say too i have no regrets on my choice, it was such a relaxing birth and baby and I totally fine xx

I had my second c section in August and I preferred it! I knew what to expect and it was actually a lot smoother recovery than the first time! Was able to accommodate care for our toddler, and I was able to have my one on one time with baby and hubby

Haven't had a vbac but had a vaginal for my first baby and personally for me it was much better than my section but that could of been due to it being a cat 1 emergency so I was put under and so spaced out on morphine afterwards I had complications with both types of birth, vaginal I did tear but I also had a hematoma and had an op on that at 2 days pp but that healed super fast My section I found so much more painful, recovery was worse even though I tried to get on with it as much as I could and due to my size I have a bad overhang now which still abyear later I get bad sweat rash due to it I know everyone's experiences are different though and for me neither birth was straight forward or easy but if we have another I plan to try gor a vbac

I had a c-section with my first and a VBAC with my second. The VBAC was far, far easier to heal from. I got to go home faster and I was up and enjoying life again with my kids the day after I left the hospital! We were walking around the zoo the following week, took my son to build-a-bear and walked the mall 3 days after my daughter was born, etc. With my c-section, I couldn't drive for two weeks (which is standard practice due to the incision), healing was way slower, pain lasted longer, etc. Definitely do some more research before making your decision. For some people, the c-section can be a better option, but it is physically harder option.
