Why do you need to remove them ? Do you have some chronical problems? If I was you, I would try to save them...God gave them to us for a reason
I had this done several years ago now. Not going to lie the operation and healing process is painful or at least I found it painful. You will definitely want to rest after and eat soft cool foods for a good few days. I wasn’t sick after surgery but must admit sore throats since having my tonsils out are 5x worse than having tonsillitis. I think if I didn’t have the tonsils stones I had I wouldn’t of had the op. Just remember not everyone is the same and you might recover really well.
I had mine taken out 6 years ago and honestly it was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life! I don’t mean to scare you but genuinely I couldn’t move off the sofa for days, I didn’t eat for about 10 days it was horrible! Stay on top of pain relief ibuprofen as it’s an anti inflammatory and paracetamol. They say to eat toast as it helps with the recovery, personally I couldn’t eat it. I suck to soups once I could eat again. I really hope your experience is better, good luck with everything.
Okay girl, I had the surgery in December 2013, the operation was smooth and quick, I threw up three times after but it wasn’t painful as I still had a lot of pain relief in my system and you’d go from fine to sick suddenly which is good as it’s not like you’re nauseous it just happens suddenly. Of my three surgeries (heart surgery, csection and tonsillectomy) it was my most painful to recover from because you can’t really escape the pain, every time you eat, drink, cough, yawn or God forbid sneeze you feel the pain. I found the only food I could eat was soft bacon sandwiches as it had nothing acidic (avoid tomatoes and lemons!) wasn’t too hot or cold or scratchy. Was it worth it though? Yes! After a week I ate a whole burger king and as I used to have tonsilitis every bloody month and have never had it or a chest infection since for me it was short term pain for long term gain, it won’t be a fun Christmas though!
I had mine removed last august due to a lump growing bigger on one side over a couple of years. You take anti sickness tablets before you go down for surgery and tbh, I was never sick after but I know everyone will be different. I’m not going to lie, the pain was horrible over the first couple of days doing anything, even yawning whilst it’s healing but the meds are so strong they really do help. After a few days it does get better. Just stick to soups and easy foods, nothing too hot either because that’ll burn your throat. I lived on soups and ice lollies to begin with. I would rather childbirth again than that, but I’m so glad it’s done as my lump was making it hard for me to breath at night and now I can sleep fine. Once they’re out you’ll never have to worry about them again so it’s well worth it xx
@Amy thank you! This has reassured me.
@Nastia I have chronic tonsillitis that has caused several A&E attendances due to not being able to breathe.
@Jess thank you very much!
@Sammi thank you so much for reassuring me! I have had tonsillitis so bad I’ve been in A&E before not being able to breathe- so I’m hoping the recovery isn’t at bad as that 😂
@Shannon it is a painful recovery, I won’t lie, but it is sooo worth it just to be able to breath! Honestly I was sounding like darth vador at night where my throat was closing up due to the lump, now I can sleep and breath absolutely fine. So the long run outweighs the recovery in my eyes. You’ll be fine. Good luck! Xx
I had my tonsils out in 2017 after having tonsillitis 9 times in a year (and many times before that!!) I can’t lie it was pretty rough, I had to stay in the night they were removed because of swelling in my throat. I then went home but was back again after a day and in hospital for 3 days with an infection - apparently behind my tonsils were infected when they removed them but they couldn’t tell until they were already out which probably caused it to be bad after. It was quite a rough time BUT very worth it. It’s great not getting tonsillitis all the time and I felt so much better having them gone 😊 I would recommend stocking up on liquid paracetamol and ibuprofen - I couldn’t swallow tablets but it also coats the sore area which helps. If it is a bit rough, just try and hold on to the fact it will feel so much better in the long term without them 😊
@Shannon ohh, it must be really hard with a chronic tonsillitis...I had bad tonsillitis once and it lasted few weeks, all my body was in pain, it was a nightmare...I wish you make a right decision and good luck
Thank you guys! Here now in the waiting room just met my surgeon!
@Shannon you got this hope all goes well, it’ll be worth it!
I had one two years ago just eat soft foods and take the meds and lots of rest you’ll be fine you’ll be sore for about 2 weeks to a month I would say but other then that your be ok just make sure you also get paracetamol and Nurofen in liquid form it will help
