Those of you who are neurodivergent, how has becoming a parent affected you? What have you learned?
I feel like I have to relearn so many things, social rules etc. Also having stayed at home with my baby for months has kind of given me a break from people and now that I'm easing my way back, I'm realising why I prefer being a hermit ( though it's not good for my mental health).
Things I've noticed/learned since becoming a parent:
- I have to remember to acknowledge and say something nice about other parents' babies in baby class (can't just ignore them or look shocked if I don't find them cute)
- I really don't like having to get used to other people's smell again (never knew this about myself)
- I need to come up with a system of remembering all the new names and faces
- people still want to talk to you even if your entire focus is on baby, you somehow still have to be polite while keeping an eye on them
There's probably loads more. What else have you learned or noticed?
Oh I also have to really try to make eye contact with my baby so she'll learn to do it when she grows up. I tend to do "fake eye contact" where I look at a different area of the face
