Ab separation

Has anyone else struggled with ab separation (or diastis recti) since birth? I can get my belly down mostly through excercise but the gap doesn't seem to heal, i'm thinking of getting it checked out, does anyone happen to know if surgery is sometimes needed for this kind of thing? Or if i should try more excercise??

I’ve had it since my first pregnancy. Surgery is needed in a lot of cases unfortunately. :/

A womens health physio can help a lot! Most cases dont require surgery unless very extreme

I had a Mommy MOT after my second - my gap was quite wide after giving birth, around 5cm. I’ve got it down to around 1cm (19 months postpartum) but the physio told me that it may never fully close. You can get surgery to correct it (it’s basically a tummy tuck), which is definitely something I would consider down the line. But for now I’m going to continue to focus on the deep core exercises to see if I can do anymore.

I also had a Mommy MOT due to a very painful belly up to almost a year post partum. Luckily managed to heal with the help of a physiotherapist, so I would highly recommend seeing one, they should examine you and help you heal the abs and link it to pelvic floor. My PT also gave me back exercises to support abs, so it’s very personal and depends on your body structure.

Thanks for the replies, i seem to get so far with the excercise, almost healed and then get set back somehow and get bloated. I think i'll try some more excercises and if that doesn't work i'll make an appointment, thanks for the help :)
