We trained ours straight to the toilet. She wasn’t interested in the potty (had one lying around for ages) and watched others at nursery use the kids toilets there so I think that helped her. We made a big deal about her new toilet seat and steps to the toilet letting her know they were specially for her. She got excited by that. We also have a mini library next to the toilet to read books, particularly for a number two. The first couple of days where she was getting used to it, we’d sit on the toilet for around 15 min after meals as that was normal for her to go after. I don’t know if that helps or not. My LG trained herself really quick so we’ve had quite an easy journey of it, although yet to do big day trips with her.
I did , just go for it by day3/4 they get the hang of it. This is the best time so you can deal with all the accidents at home . Lots of praise for when they do go on the toilet.
@Cari we have a downstairs toilet. Is the toilet seat you have the one with the little flap insert that you can lift up when adults are using it? Will I just replace both toilet seats with that?
@Rachel I will try the library idea, thank you! He’s at nursery too and I thought he would want to copy his friends but he just says “no” when I speak to him about the toilet 😂 x
We half managed it but only because we don't have a downstairs loo otherwise I would've done it all on the toilet. We have a toddler seat on the toilet, the fixed "family seat" kind, much more stable than an insert. And a double step so he can sit comfortably with feet on the step. I find the single steps aren't high enough to give proper stability. Then we have a stash of books to read in the bathroom as that's his favourite thing, otherwise I would suggest a bathroom bag/box of fiddly toys, only for use in the bathroom. But if you don't have a downstairs loo then the first few days/week will be tricky as it's always been a mad dash to the potty, waiting til the last minute. It's only after about 2-3weeks he can now say he needs to go and he has the control to wait until we get upstairs. If you have a downstairs loo then it's definitely do-able!
