Potty training

For those who have potty trained I need some help. Little man started two weeks ago. Nursery have been amazing at letting him go no nappy just trousers. At home he’s nude waist down. First week a lot of wet trousers and was scared but by the end of the week he was peeing in the toilet with stand aid one . Rewards are stickers. He asked everytime. And also begged for nappies all the time. The second week. No wet trousers or changes at nursery at all and was peeing every time in toilet. Only going to and from nursery in nappies and then none for rest of the day. Has begun to poo in the toilet with the stand aid, had one poop out in Tk max no aids just on a toilet. A few poop accidents in his shorts and one from the piano he squatted mid air and pooped on my floor. He has since took the potty through to the living room and is using that one as well. Fast forward to this morning he took his own nappy off when dad was in the bathroom and sat on the potty and used it. He depends less on the stickers now and just goes by himself when he needs just needing prompted to poop. Doesn’t ask for nappies as much. He pees either standing or sitting which ever he thinks of in the moment What’s next? When do I leave the house no nappies and for how long and what do I do. I feel like we’re making so much progress so quick I don’t want to set him back as I really need him out of nappies before my 3rd child is born in April and I have an 18 month old to start potty training.

I think still wearing nappies sometimes makes the process much more difficult, no nappies and commit.

Get a portable potty! We never actually needed to use it, but it was good to know, that we have a potty with us in case he needs it urgently

Just commit to it and go no nappy at all for a week

Get a carry potty. Toilet available 24/7 then and keeps his confidence 👌🏻 Well done little man, doing so well xx

Tbh we didn't use a carry potty as too much hassle and coudnt really use on days out in the park etc. Once potty trained at home, we ventured out for short bursts. To the local playground/ shops. You soon get into a rhythm of recognising how often they need to wee/poo. Always encourage a wee before any outings and just go with it. I used a changing mat to line the car seat as didn't want to confuse by putting a nappy back on. She never ever pee'd in the car. Also carry change of clothes incase of accidents and of out in shops play centres they'll always be toilets but again I'd stick to soft plays only until your both confident as a park won't need a clean up if he has an accident. You'll be surprised how quick they get it once you brave it. They're really clever. My daughter would hold it instantly if no access to toilet nearby as didn't want an accident in front of others whereas home she felt comfortable enough to so getting out helped quicken the process and her confidence

@Hayley oh I’ll look into this for going out. How would that work if your in town or on buses etc

@Victoria so I’m currently a 25/30 min walk to the nearest soft play.. I’m just nervous incase that’s too long for him to hold and there’s not really a toilet before 20 mins I can get access too. I definitely think I’ll commit to not having nappies

@Suzie once potty trained in the day and no more accidents they'll naturally start getting dry at night when they're ready. I'd say once nappies are dry overnight for consistently 3 weeks you can ditch them. No late night drinks and wee before bed and they're hormones will do the rest. X

@Suzie what I did is I went no nappy for a week. I woke her up 3 times at night with my timer 3-4 hours in between depending how much water she drank before bed time. Then she understood the assignment and never bedwetted up until now. But I’d say use a mattress protector just in case. She just turned 3 and I don’t wake her up anymore. She wakes up herself to go pee on her potty. We have her potty in the room so it’s easier. But if she does have plenty water before bed I take her to pee once to not stress her. Commit to it if you want to use this suggestion and it will work for you Also I still use travel potty whenever we go out just because I do not like her sitting on public toilet and also my toddler mostly wants to pee whenever we are not even close to a place that has a toilet so travel potty makes life easier for us especially when we travel

@Suzie I would try and be discreet, but if I ever got caught out like at the park or a shop, she would go where she was. Never needed for the bus, but if she needed the toilet I would make her hold it if she felt she could or I would get off. I never needed to though

As soon as we started potty trainers we used no nappies at all, just took a portable potty and plenty of spare clothes. We took the carry potty with us for the first few weeks, and used it everywhere, middle of park, middle of supermarket once. Night time you can't train for as that's hormonal

Definitely get a travel carry potty - they're great. We used in the park lots of times! Once on a train! My July 21 baby picked it up really quick too and we just stopped nappies during the day. She still wears a nappy overnight as she doesn't stay dry then.

We just committed to no nappies in the day. We used to have a potty in the boot and would ask him if he wanted to go before we’d go for a walk ect. We don’t use the potty in the boot anymore and he doesn’t mind doing a bush wee if we are the beach or walking the dog. He’s been potty trained since he was just over 2, but night time is hormonal so he’s still in nappy pants for night and I don’t see this changing for a while. I heard that boys take a little longer to be dry at night. Plus my little one loves to take a drink to bed. He will sometimes wake up and come into our room and ask for a potty but most of the time he’s in too much of a deep sleep so hardly wakes up dry xxx
