@Molly your right. My pride wouldent let me till I had no other choice I am afraid does mixing the milks cause stomach issues?
@Mia it hasn't for mine but shes always had both (preemie baby who needed the calories and wasn't allowed to exclusively breastfeed). You can mix the formula in with the breastmilk in a bottle so they'll get used to it.
Have you tried side lying to nurse? I have large breasts too. I lie my baby on the bed next to me and then lie next to her on my side. Another option is to just try to get as much skin-to-skin contact on your chests as you can. This will help trigger milk production. Unfortunately, with cluster feeding, if you exclusively pump, you’re going to have to pump more. It was when my daughter went through her first cluster feeding that I decided feeding at the breast HAD to happen. She was premie and in NICU, so we had a rough initial breastfeeding journey, but I didn’t want to feel like I was connected to the pump all day. Best of luck!
When I was researching increasing supply, I came across power pumping. Not sure if you already know about it or have already tried it. If not, could you try that when bub is napping? So you set aside 1hr, pump for 20, rest for 10. Then pump for 10, rest 10, pump 10, done. This mimics the cluster feeding. Do once a day for the next few days. There’s a few youtube videos about it.
I have size I-J boobs and it was difficult with first Bub at first but then you get used to it. Side lying is a great hands free way to feed with big boobs. Second Bub it was a whole lot easier. I would suspect that she cries because the milk doesn’t come as quick and easy as the bottle. If you wish to try BFing again perhaps hand express to letdown and then pop her on the first few times. And when using bottles pace feed so she has to work a little for it. Otherwise if she is cluster feeding you can power pump or mimic that to increase your supply to keep up. Formula is also completely fine to give - don’t beat yourself up about it.
I just supplement with formula. She gets all the nourishment my breast milk can give...and if she needs more calories then I top up with formula. Fed is best 🩷
