She’s down to about 4/5 short feeds a day because my milk production has dropped so bad.
@Veronica thanks, this is helpful! We haven't tracked exactly how much water he drinks, maybe 3-4 ounces? Did you do any sleep training? We have not done any sleep training, but sometimes I wonder if it would help him sleep better at night.
@Laura we sort of did and didn't. I didn't look up any methods or anything, we just kinda tried things and did what worked for us, which was just soothing him to sleep. It helps if dad goes in and does it, because babies can smell your milk and it can make them want to nurse. My husband was going in most nights and I think that really helped. Sometimes he would wake up just for his pacifier though, so we got glow in the dark ones and put a few in his bed in various places so that he could find them himself easier, and it helped us find them quicker in the dark too. We would kinda let him cry for a little bit and watch him in the baby monitor to see if he could find them or not. We still have to do that sometimes but not usually more than 2 times a night.
My son usually nurses 6 times a day, but some days he's definitely not as interested, and sometimes he just nurses off one side. He also eats 3 meals a day and an afternoon snack when he's daycare. How much water does your son drink in a day? I feel like my son is the same way and is having too much fun moving and playing with the other babies at daycare, that when I come to nurse him, he doesn't want to and just wants to go play again, or is excited to eat because I nurse him right before lunch and afternoon snack. I was doing dream feedings and he did wake up to nurse 1-2 times a night up until about a month ago. Now he's sleeping through the night, or usually soothes himself back to sleep with his pacifier. We usually just soothed him back to sleep by sitting and rocking him for about 10 minutes or so, and only nursing if he kept waking up when we would transfer him to the crib, and after a few days, he started sleeping longer stretches and eventually slept through the night without needing to nurse.
