Teething or ill? Help!

My little one has been sent home from nursery this week a couple of times with a temperature, he’s not been quite himself this week but has still managed to play etc. The last couple of days, he has random attacks of inconsolable crying as if he is in pain, he won’t sit with me, doesn’t want to be put down & quite frankly doesn’t know what he wants! He’s got an awful cough at the moment, but who hasn’t with all these bugs going around?! He’s napped nearly 4 hours in total today so obviously is something going on, I just don’t know whether we have some ‘big’ teeth coming or if something else is going on with him. He’s been sleeping through the night so no issues with sleep or anything keeping him awake. I’m just not sure whether I should get him seen by a GP before Xmas to get him checked over as I just don’t know what is going on! Any thoughts - does this sound like major teething to you? I have looked in his mouth & can’t see anything brewing as such.

It sounds like something is definitely going on. If it were me, i would probably get him checked just to rule anything else out and put your mind at ease hopefully. I get it though. My son has been really crying out in pain at times too. Finally felt another tooth under the gum today so i presume it's that. X

We’ve got cough and teething at the same time. I inspected gums and can’t feel anything poking as of yet but she’s rubbing her mouth and drooling loads. Also same behaviour as your little ones. Minus the sleep as she never slept well. She does also have a cold with runny nose. We had her checked previous week for a different cold (ekhmm..) and gp just said they can cough for ages and nothing can be done all normal etc.. have your checked maybe to see ears and throat before Christmas? Does everything improve when you give Calpol? X

@Kasia Ears did cross my mind actually so maybe I will get him checked tomorrow & have the once over to be sure. I have been keeping up the calpol but doesn’t seem to make any difference really. Thank you!

@Hannah thank you - always such a difficult one to judge isn’t it! You don’t want to take them in unnecessarily but at the same time you do want your mind put at ease.

That's it. I don't want to be one of those parents who's in their every week but it's really been relentless since he started nursery! X
