Can I breast and formula feed?

I’d like to do both for different reasons, can these be done at the same time? For example morning feed might be breast then a few hours later formula/bottle? Would I still have to pump to get rid of my milk?

Milk supplies adjusts to however much youre feeding baby, it's supply and demand. Loads of people combi-feed, it's very normal

Yes you can do this (combi feeding) however it is recommended to try and get through 6-8 weeks to establish supply. But you can still do some combi feeding whether that’s via a ‘top up’ feed or maybe just one feed of the day. You don’t pump as much as baby gets out so it can be hard to get supply going if just pumping (possible of course). But honestly by the time you pump and then in addition need to sterilise and prep bottles for a feed, you may just think that would’ve been easier to BF as cuts a lot of faff out. But there are other reasons for wanting to combi feed - baby needs, you want Dad to be involved, more freedom. I always planned to combi feed with my first but once I realised that even for a night feed I’d have to get up and pump to replace the feed so wouldn’t be giving me extra sleep, I just thought I mose well BF direct which was hard at times but got easier. So for me I just ended up EBF. But definitely possible to combi feed!

Yes, we did combined feeding from the beginning (though more breast) and it helped give me a break when I needed it

We did combi feeding from day 3 I think it was until 9 months. We topped up with formula after each breast feed. But there are other ways. And in the early days we did do formula for one overnight feed so I could sleep. 😊
