BF / Pumping / Formula

This is my second baby & I have tried breast feeding her but I’m really struggling with it. She latches pretty well on the right boob but the left boob we can’t seem to get it right. It’s sooooo sore when she sucks which when in the hospital midwives told me she isn’t latching properly. At the minute I’m just pumping so she is getting BM but I really want to persevere with BF. I’m just really struggling but I’m not going to kick myself down about it. I also have a 3 year old at home who is very clingy which doesn’t help! Any tips and tricks would be extremely appreciated x

I have the same issue, midwives suggested nipple shield for my left boob and honestly it has been a godsend. It just takes slightly longer on the left side as flow is reduced with. Nipple shields and milk doesn't get sucked as quickly but still better than on and off latching and baby getting agitated each time.

I could have written this myself! At his 3 day review yesterday I was told he had lost too much weight (same issues, latches well on left not right and doesn't feed for long as she's so sleepy, and clingy 3 year old!). Midwife said I had to top up with formula just whilst my milk was coming in, but I'm concerned he'll start totally rejecting the breast. Might try nipple shields as per the above suggestion xx

@Pooja what nipple shields are you using? I have ones but I can’t get on with them I find them very strange!

MAM Nipple Shields Size Medium (Pack of 2), Breast Shields with Sterilisable Travel Case, Breast Protectors to Support and Enhance Breastfeeding https://amzn.eu/d/56RpK0r I used this one as the midwife suggested that and the size as well

@Pooja amazing thank you x
