Nursery

Today my nursery has increased to £696 from £466 I use it 3 days a week (that hasn’t changed) and I get the 15 hours free childcare (she’s 2). The 11 hours I get free per week (pro-rata) is now being charged by the nursery at 75p per ‘free’ hour… which means it’s not free anymore! The standard rate has gone up to £...

People in education - is this normal?

Anyone with knowledge in the education sector can you tell me if this is normal for reception aged children. My LB is starting in September and is going to an independent school. The school is quite academically focused. When I asked about sitting at desks/play based learning in reception they said it was around 6...

Hey ladies - I’m just filling in a form for my daughters nursery placement and I have to obviously put in the code I’ve gotten for her funding. The code I’ve gotten consists of letters and numbers but when I go to type it into the form it doesn’t even register the letters and only the numbers show up. So I’m now thi...

Sick Days

I am just going on my 3rd week back to work and I am now on my second day of having to use PTO because of illness and daycare issues. One day the daycare had to close the infant classroom due to shortage of staff because of illness. Now today I feel she is sick and needs to go see the pediatrician so I have to take ...

Weighing daycare options

Opinions please!! We are looking for a daycare to place our tot and needless to say it’s weighing on my heart heavy. We have two great options. Similar distance, great curriculum, both clean and secure. Option A is a franchise. $40 more and offer meals. Staff seems friendly. The kids were very disciplined for 2 ye...

Childcare

So I’m a SAHM to a 1.5 year old and thinking about offering local moms childcare. I live in an apartment with a pretty large living room and have all the extra stuff still from when my baby was little. So I’m wondering, Would you let a local mom watch your kiddo? I’m thinking 20/hr. What would you look for or requir...

School district has asked IEP students to not return for 2025-2026 school year

I saw today that South Range School District in Ohio has asked parents of students with IEPs in grades 7th and 8th to not enroll for the upcoming year. The school says they can come back to school if they don’t have IEPs. This is what happens when you get rid of the department of education on a federal level. As a...

Pull LO out of nursery?

Our little one goes to a childminder for 2 days a week and a forest nursery for 1 day per week. He’s been going since August and loves it. We’ve been thinking about pulling him out of the forest nursery for a while as we aren’t happy with a few things to do with his care. Would you be worried he’s going to miss ...

I've missed the deadline to get a specialized bike for my kids. We could modify a regular bike but it could be costly. Is it worth it to do or should we wait until next year to get the specialized bike?

They have been doing some bike riding at school with their PT but we have not bought them bikes in the past due to safety issues.

Newborn care

I know it can vary depending on cultural traditions, but I'm curious to know - do you like having someone look after your newborn in the first few weeks (eg. your mother, MIL, aunt etc) or would you rather just be supported to look after your baby yourself? I would rather have someone just cook, clean and hold the ...
